Ancient Wisdom,
Plain Language.

Whether you’ve grown up with Ayurveda or are just discovering it, this is your guide to understanding how it works — and how it can work for you.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest and most complete healing sciences. Born in the ancient Vedic civilisations of India and Sri Lanka over 5,000 years ago, its name comes from Sanskrit: Ayur (life) and Veda (knowledge) — literally, the science of life.

Unlike Western medicine, which focuses on treating disease, Ayurveda focuses on restoring and maintaining balance — in the body, the mind, and the spirit. It sees each person as a unique individual with their own constitution, and tailors all treatment to that individual.

The goal is not just to remove symptoms, but to understand and address the root cause — so that healing is real, lasting, and truly yours.

What Makes Ceylon Ayurveda Unique?

Ceylon Ayurveda is the distinct Sri Lankan branch of this ancient science. While sharing the same Vedic foundations, it developed its own herbal formulations, treatment protocols, and clinical traditions over thousands of years — shaped by Sri Lanka’s exceptional biodiversity and unique medicinal plant life.

At Krishi Ayurveda, our practitioners bring this authentic Ceylon lineage to Perth. The herbal oils, preparations, and treatment methods we use are rooted in Sri Lankan tradition — passed down through generations of BAMS-trained practitioners.

This heritage is our greatest strength. It is why clients from Sri Lanka, India, and across Asia trust us — and why Australians seeking genuine natural healing choose us.

The Three Doshas

Ayurveda teaches that every person is made up of a unique combination of three energies — called doshas. Understanding yours is the key to personalised healing.

🌡
Vata — Air & Space

The Energy of Movement

Vata governs movement, circulation, breathing, and the nervous system. When balanced, Vata types are creative, energetic, and enthusiastic. When out of balance, they experience anxiety, dryness, insomnia, and joint pain.

  • Light, thin build
  • Creative and quick-thinking
  • Prone to anxiety and dry skin when imbalanced
  • Responds well to warm oils and grounding routines
🔥
Pitta — Fire & Water

The Energy of Transformation

Pitta governs digestion, metabolism, and intelligence. Balanced Pitta types are focused, driven, and articulate. When imbalanced, they experience inflammation, skin issues, acid reflux, and irritability.

  • Medium build, warm body temperature
  • Sharp, analytical mind
  • Prone to inflammation and skin conditions when imbalanced
  • Benefits from cooling herbs and calming treatments
🌎
Kapha — Earth & Water

The Energy of Structure

Kapha governs structure, lubrication, and stability. Balanced Kapha types are calm, compassionate, and strong. When imbalanced, they experience weight gain, sluggishness, congestion, and depression.

  • Larger, sturdy build
  • Calm, patient, and loving by nature
  • Prone to weight gain and congestion when imbalanced
  • Responds well to energising treatments and light diet
